Santa Fe Preparatory School invites applications for a full-time Health Coordinator/School Nurse. The ideal candidate will be relationship centered, detail-oriented, positive and energetic as they fill this pivotal role in fostering a safe and healthy school community.
This is a twelve-month salaried position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Delivery of Health Services:
ý Ensures comprehensive delivery of health services to students.
ý Provides age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care in a safe environment.
ý Provides emergency care and first aid for all students and employees.
ý Reviews, administers, and documents immunizations as deemed appropriate for student health.
ý Authorizes exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
2. Health Education and Communication:
ý Educates parents and staff about healthy practices and treatment conditions.
ý Advises teachers and consults with parents on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health concerns.
ý Communicates effectively in school and community settings with students, staff, parents, and care providers.
3. Coordination and Continuity of Care:
ý Assures and coordinates continuity of care between settings and caregivers.
ý Makes appropriate referrals based on data obtained from screening procedures.
ý Coordinates planning with interdisciplinary colleagues at the national, state, and local levels in the coordinated school health service program.
4. Policy Implementation and Management:
ý Implements health policies and procedures of the local district and state health agencies.
ý Manages and oversees the medication policy.
ý Works in conjunction with the Director of Experiential Education to determine and define health and safety protocols generally, as well as for specific students.
ý Assists in supervising, training, and delegating health and well-care needs/assignments
ý Administer medication within scope of practice and delegate appropriately
ý Delegate procedures about medically fragile students to other staff as needed.
5. Record-Keeping and Monitoring:
ý Monitors and manages medical information in a timely manner.
ý Maintains student health and immunization records and performs appropriate follow-up.
ý Uses nursing processes to develop goals, objectives, action steps, and assessments of programs.
6. Consultation and Resource Provision:
ý Serves as a consultant and resource person to staff, parents, and medically fragile students by identifying community resources.
ý Serves on and/or attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and curriculum.
ý Serves on accommodation plan meetings when the student has a health condition that affects his/her ability to learn.
ý Serves as a consultant in matters of school health, safety, health education, and sanitary conditions.
ý Coordinates community immunization clinics, blood drives, etc.
7. Professional Development:
ý Participates in in-service training programs, workshops, and continuing education to maintain professional credentials and competency.
ý Attends all mandatory in-service training meetings.
8. Other Responsibilities:
ý Performs all functions in accordance with established SFP policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures.
ý Assists the Leadership Team in the performance of any other health and wellness-related assignments.
ý Occasional travel to locations to assist school programming in emergencies.
ý Maintains professional standards at Santa Fe Prep.
ý Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of Santa Fe Prep.
ý Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
ý Graduate of a registered nursing program.
ý Minimum of LPN certification required (RN is preferred).
ý CPR/AED certification required.
ý 2+ years of experience in school nursing, community health, or public health.
ý Knowledge of nursing process and theory, standard nursing practices and procedures, immunization requirements, communicable disease prevention and control, and HIPAA/FERPA regulations.
ý Knowledge of state and federal guidelines that affect student access to healthcare.
ý Proficiency with electronic sphygmomanometer, electronic thermometer, computerized record keeping, and other medical equipment required by individual student's needs.
ý Flexibility, organization, excellent decision-making, and effective problem-solving and communication skills.
ý Advanced interpersonal skills for working with diverse populations both in person and on the telephone.
ý Ability to meet deadlines and submit reports in a timely manner.
ý Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and private transportation.
ý The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations, at times bending, squatting, and reaching.
ý Physical strength and ability to assist injured students and staff members by positioning or moving them according to established procedures in emergencies.
ý Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 40 pounds.
ý Ability to sit and stand for long periods.
ý Willingness to be regularly exposed to disease and injury.
Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000 depending on experience.
