Position Summary
-
Promotes and maintains health and healing by providing medical services related to diagnosis, treatment and education to patients and families in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team according to established standards and practices but not limited to evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
-
Successful completion of an approved advanced practice registered nurse program; must have a master's degree, post-master's certificate, or doctoral degree ; Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or by a compact state under the Nurse Licensure Compact Act; current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the State of Nebraska. Prescriptive authority in Nebraska and DEA Certification. One year experience in hospital or clinic setting preferred.

Credentials

Prior to appointment to the Medical Staff, primary source verification is obtained, at a minimum, from the applicant's relevant education/training, past and present affiliations, peer references, licensures, certifications, and past and present medical liability insurance. Items which expire, such as licenses, certificates, boards, and insurance, are monitored on an ongoing basis. An automatic suspension will be imposed if the applicants license authorizing him to practice expires or is revoked or suspended, if professional liability insurance expires, if the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration expires or is revoked or suspended from prescribing scheduled drugs, if the practitioner does not reapply to the Medical Staff according to the time frames specified, if the practitioner is excluded from a state or federally funded health care program, or if medical records are not completed in a timely fashion.

All appointees of the Medical Staff are subject to ongoing professional practice evaluation which is defined as the procedure by which health care providers evaluate the quality and efficiency of services ordered or performed by other health care providers to individual patients in the Medical Center as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and credentialing policies and procedures. References are queried to determine the appointee’s current medical/clinical knowledge, technical and clinical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, communication skills and professionalism.

Essential Functions

Generally – no rounding, no call rotation, and no procedural assist and minimal evenings and weekends.

Contribute to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives.

Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results. Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department electronic medical record in a timely manner.

Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; discussing family planning; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenance.

Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations including but not limited to infection-control policies and protocols.

Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
